Note on Boot Sole Separation :
It is common by almost all hiking boot manufacturers to use Polyurethane foam as a midsole material for support and cushioning. Normally it performs exceptionally well and is quite durable, especially with regular, ongoing use.
Depending on environmental exposure it sometimes breaks down in older products after longer periods of non-use. Although that sounds counter intuitive, it is the case with foams and rubber that are left to sit for longer periods. It is a process called hydrolysis. The inactivity will cause the material to become brittle, basically dry rot. You may have witnessed it with other products such a bicycle, tractor tires, etc.
The combination of the environmental conditions when it was stored and the period of time it was stored are the likely causes for the failure. Under these circumstances, due the likely age of the product and the likely reason for failure, it is not covered under warranty. It is a use issue (or lack of use in this case), not a quality issue.
